A genotype is a class or group of individuals which have a particular or specific genetic makeup.

4. How do you know the horses you possess are pure?

Purity, as much as can be proven, has been established through extensive research into history, old drawings, and a zoologically based study of bones. Careful study has been made of the local history of the people and horses from areas where horses were procured. Is is our belief that the Barbs we possess are as pure as any breed can be. We recognize that absolute purity is impossible to prove in any animal, as none can be actually followed back to their beginnings with irrefutable records.

5. What is the specialty of the Barb?

Originally the Barb was a war horse and as such needed stamina, endurance, and hardiness. It still has those traits and so is an excellent mountain and endurance horse. Its narrow body and short back enable it to turn quickly and manuevre narrow trails. This, combined with strong bones and tough feet result in a fine riding and pack animal, especially in rough or mountainous areas. It is athletic and has been used very successfully for cattle work. Although we personally have not had the opportunity to use it for jumping, some have, with successful results. We feel it would make an outstanding polo horse as well. Its high equine intelligence tends it to many areas of accomplishment.
